Big changes!

This has been an emotional weekend with my daughter graduating from Creighton University.  Seems like only months ago, not 4 years, when I dropped her off at college to move in the dorms. I cried from Omaha to Des Moines thinking about leaving my baby girl for the next 3 months. (and it’s hard to drive and cry!) Today I only cried a little bit of the way out of Omaha thinking about her graduation. 

I was able to celebrate her graduation with extended family, and this was the first time where I said goodbye to a few people that I don’t have any plans to see in the future. Normally when I say goodbye to my family, I already know when I will see them again! I am a planner!  This not knowing when the heck I will be back from New Zealand to check on people is super hard. The next time I hug my nephew, he will likely be taller than me! Hard to think about.

I am super excited to be moving to New Zealand, but it is very far from my family and kids. The only reason I am able to do this move is because both of my children are responsible, mature adults. My oldest will be moving to Cape Cod and youngest will start his 2^nd year of college in Boston. I am hoping to see them both at Christmas this year but only time will tell if that works out in their schedules. 

To become a citizen in New Zealand on the work visa you have to apply by age 55.  Part of why the decision to move now is because I just turned 54. 🙂 I am not sure we will want to obtain citizenship, but we MIGHT. The other part of making this choice now is I am done with American health care. (but more on that another day)

I am so proud of my baby girl and excited for her to start mortuary school this fall. She is making big choices and changes in her life as well.
