This has been an emotional weekend with my daughter graduating from Creighton University.  Seems like only months ago, not 4 years, when I dropped her off at college to move in the dorms. I cried from Omaha to Des Moines thinking about leaving my baby girl for the next 3 months. (and it’s hard to drive and cry!) Today I only cried a little bit of the way out of Omaha thinking about her graduation.

I was able to celebrate her graduation with extended family, and this was the first time where I said goodbye to a few people that I don’t have any plans to see in the future. Normally when I say goodbye to my family, I already know when I will see them again! I am a planner!  This not knowing when the heck I will be back from New Zealand to check on people is super hard. The next time I hug my nephew, he will likely be taller than me! Hard to think about.

I am super excited to be moving to New Zealand, but it is very far from my family and kids. The only reason I am able to do this move is because both of my children are responsible, mature adults. My oldest will be moving to Cape Cod and youngest will start his 2nd year of college in Boston. I am hoping to see them both at Christmas this year but only time will tell if that works out in their schedules.

To become a citizen in New Zealand on the work visa you have to apply by age 55.  Part of why the decision to move now is because I just turned 54. 🙂 I am not sure we will want to obtain citizenship, but we MIGHT. The other part of making this choice now is I am done with American health care. (but more on that another day)

I am so proud of my baby girl and excited for her to start mortuary school this fall. She is making big choices and changes in her life as well.

eventually I will figure out how to upload photos to my iPad for this blog! 🤣
