sigh…. Spending time in Bonaire is amazing and can be hard initially. I feel like the time here is getting me ready for the big move. Places here close for 1-1.5 hours for lunch and no grocery shopping after 8 pm. 🤷🏼♀️ Everyone is on “Bonaire time” which means the handyman shows up within 30 min of scheduled time. Nobody is in a rush and it’s a big change from our working culture in America.
I’ve been diving a lot and seeing some beautiful rays, octopus, squid, turtles, fish, etc. Diving you cannot really think about other things. It’s a meditation of sorts. I’ve also been reading a lot of books and sitting in the sunshine and eating! It’s probably not a good sign that the burger truck asks if I want “the usual” lol 😂
I’m super lucky my sister Kris has also been able to be here with me! She arrived a few days after me and just extended her trip to hang out longer. We have been doing a sister trip (just her and I) for 17 years now. Initially, we would only do 3 nights in Chicago so we were away from kids and spouses. We would buy and eat our own ice cream, take an uninterrupted bath, spa and order room service. Since I bought a place here in Bonaire we now spend at least a week and sit in the ocean daily for our vitamin sea! I’m thankful for the time we have together and really surprised at the number of people that comment they wish they had a better relationship with their own sister. We are like two peas in a pod 🫛 so I am really blessed!
I have been completing projects here to make this a home while my husband is busy packing up the Minnesota home. I won’t be back here for a few years as I plan to explore countries closer to me in New Zealand.
